PROVIDENCE CARE COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVE, AMICHI: “Providence” emphasizes the guidance and foreseeing care of the Divine over our mission and prudent management of the resources we are given to care for the most vulnerable among us

Our Story

January 1st, 2004 Mr. & Mrs. Ody Oruche sought and conducted a needs assessment of the Diocesan Hospial Amichi with the medical director, Dr. Okwudiri Obiadazie. Medications and onsite water supply were identified as the major needs.

Upon return to the USA, Mrs. Ukamaka Oruche initiated contacts with her networks in the Indianapolis, USA, namely, The Rotary Club of Fishers and the Mercy Foundation Inc. December 2004- Dr. & Mrs Sampson Ogbuchi delivered the first shipment of medications to Diocesan Hospital. This medication supply was sponsored by the Mercy Foundation Inc. The medical director established a ½ - day weekly clinic to ensure proper diagnosing, dispensing of medication, and follow-up care...LEARN MORE ABOUT PROVIDENCE CARE

Our Mission

VISION: To be known as an agency that provides accessible and high quality care to all indigents of Amichi and surrounding towns in partnership with other institutions in an effort to enhance good will and collaboration in our community through service and education.

SITE: Our physical facility and operational base, Providence Care Community Health Centre, is located in Amichi, a rural community in Nnewi- South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Highlights of effort to improve healthcare in Amichi & surrounding communities


  • ⚬ Served 7, 445 children and adults (male = 1,636; females = 4,802) from Amichi and 23 surrounding communities
  • ⚬ Provided 50 cataract surgeries
  • ⚬ Distributed 4000 reading glasses
  • ⚬ Served 50 patients per month to ensure proper chronic disease diagnoses, treatment, and self-management

Eye Care

Diabetes, High blood pressure, and Aging leads to various eye complications. We strive to provide comprehensive array of care for overall well-being. We provide eye care including screening and treatment. We have provided cataract surgeries thanks to the generosity of our collaborating partners from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Surgical Eye Expeditions.
